Hello fellow hookers! Welcome to my rant page. Here you will find various postings; hopefully mostly about rug hooking, designing and dyeing wool. I started rug hooking about 16 years ago. I love it. I find the pulling of the loops in the rhythmic motion to be very soothing, almost hypnotizing. For those of you new to rug hooking, I had some FAQ’s in my old Ebay blog (username: cynthia-ann), but since they are discontinuing the blogs, I’ll try and get them up here.
Quickies:
- It takes approximately 4-6 hours to hook a square foot of rug.
- It takes approximately 4 times the surface area in wool when rug hooking. I take my wool (before cutting into strips) and fold it over 4 times, and place it on the area to be hooked.
- Rug hooking is a great way to relax and meditate.
- There is no “right” or “wrong” way to hook. There are several ways, choose the methods right for you and right for the equipment you have.
- Bare minimum equipment: a frame to place your backing in (a quilting hoop, or even a wooden picture frame that you can tack the backing to), your backing that you’ve drawn a pattern on (or a purchased pattern), some wool strips (you can cut your strips by hand at first with scissors, but later you might want to get a wool cutter) and a hook of course.
- Don’t copy other hookers work. If you love a pattern, inquire and see if s/he will sell you one. Or if you adapt a pattern, you first must ask permission and give credit.
